Resurrection: A Poem

The following poem is based on Romans 8. It was inspired by my immense struggles with doubt in 2013-2014, as well as my experience with having a fibroadenoma.

Resurrection

I have a weakened body.

It’s sin-cursed and scarred.

It grows tumors varied

Of flesh and doubts bizarre.

Sin is in its center,

Fighting for my death.

Against God, a dissenter,

Stifling out my breath.

But there’s a new body coming.

Praise the Lord!

Found in His blood running.

Paid, a debt I couldn’t afford.

This body is broken,

But new life broke in.

Though this body loves sin,

The Spirit I’m set free in.

Condemnation is out.

Declared righteous in Jesus.

His love isn’t in doubt.

My punishment is gone.

I’m not a slave anymore.

My body may be sick,

But my body is the Lord’s.

The sin-curse was the finished “it.”

For there’s a new body coming

In the kingdom of the Lord!

Found in His blood running.

Paid, a debt I couldn’t afford.

Just like the empty tomb,

From death I will rise

By the power of the King.

His Name is Jesus Christ.
