The True Story of Hope: A Poem

The True Story of Hope

When I was a freshman in high school, I was taking an English class through a DVD course. The teacher gave an assignment to write a poem called a diamante. I was to pick two opposite ideas and use the middle line of the poem to function as a bridge between the two. That is the story of how the following poem, titled “The True Story of Hope,” came into being:

Sin
Ugly, putrid
Hurting, destroying, ruining
Cross, death, tomb, life
Resurrecting, saving, loving
Holy, worthy
God
